I don’t cycle regularly – how fit do I need to be?
All the holidays in this brochure can be enjoyed by anyone who is reasonably fit. Obviously some holidays involve greater distances or frequency of cycling and some will cover hillier terrain than others. Our tour gradings and itinerary descriptions should help guide you towards the most suitable holiday options for you. If you haven’t cycled for a while, re-acquainting yourself with two wheels will better prepare you and add to the enjoyment of the holiday. Do let us know if you have any medical conditions we should be aware of, and check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
What else should I bring with me?
Daytime clothes for sightseeing and other activities on non-cycling days, casual evening clothes, a fleece, swimwear and swimming towels, sun creams and a sun hat. Please do not bring valuable items for transportation, and we ask that you limit your luggage to one medium-sized suitcase per person.
I’m concerned about the distances.
All of our web pages give info as to the total distance cycled on the holiday. On the itinerary pages, you should also find a more detailed break down of the daily distances. So, it’s easy to find a tour to suit your fitness levels. For most of our popular destinations, we coffer various cycling tours, of different distances, and with varying degrees of difficulty, so you can usually find a suitable tour for you in the destination that you want.
What do I wear for cycling?
Very much dependent on the season but the emphasis is on comfort. Padded cycling shorts, a zipped top, windproof light jacket and trainers are standard fare. In mid-summer you may just need shorts and a t-shirt. Dress in layers so you can add or remove clothing easily according to the conditions.
