Szczecin, Velo Baltica and West Pomerania
The Baltic coast, with its wide stretches of sandy beaches, remains one of Poland’s most beloved holiday destinations. But beyond the shore, the surrounding mainland offers just as much charm, filled with shimmering lakes, rolling moraine hills, and an array of historical landmarks shaped by Slavic, Prussian, and Scandinavian influences.
This picturesque region is ideal for a cycling holiday. West Pomerania, in particular, stands out for its significant investment in cycling infrastructure and a well-developed network of long-distance cycle routes. Many of these routes follow the paths of former railway lines, providing smooth, car-free asphalt trails through forests, hills, lakes, and past gothic architecture—perfect for a relaxing and scenic ride.
Our carefully curated cycling tour offers a perfect balance of Baltic seaside resorts, historic towns, and postcard-worthy natural landscapes in the Lake District. The route is suitable for all levels, with mostly flat terrain and dedicated cycle paths throughout. For added convenience, two of the longer stages can be shortened by taking your bicycle aboard a local train.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to bike touring, this gentle and inspiring cycling holiday along Poland’s Baltic coast promises a memorable mix of nature, culture, and active travel.

Itinerary
We welcome participants at Szczecin railway station at 5:00 p.m., either at the main station or a nearby secure car park, depending on prior arrangements. Szczecin is conveniently accessible, with direct train connections from Berlin taking just two hours.
Following your arrival, we transfer to a charming lakeside guesthouse on the shores of Lake Morzycko, where you’ll enjoy a relaxing dinner and spend the first two nights of your cycling holiday in comfort. This peaceful setting is the perfect place to unwind before beginning your cycling journey through the beautiful landscapes of West Pomerania.
Your cycling holiday begins with a comfortable one-hour bus transfer from Szczecin to Stepnica, located approximately 60 km away on the eastern shore of the Szczecin Lagoon. This vast lagoon is a unique body of water, separated from the Baltic Sea by a chain of islands.
We start our ride near the sandy beach and a charming wooden tavern, setting off along a scenic cycle path that runs along the lagoon’s embankment. The route leads through a tranquil nature reserve of open meadows, where you may spot Polish Konik horses and shaggy Highland cattle grazing freely – a true haven for nature lovers.
We end the day in the quiet town of Wolin, once a flourishing settlement during the 10th century. Its rich history comes to life at the Slavs and Vikings’ Centre – a fascinating open-air museum on the island that recreates the spirit of early medieval life through authentic reconstructions and live demonstrations.
This stage of the tour perfectly blends natural beauty with cultural heritage, making it an unforgettable part of your cycling holiday along the Baltic coast.
We begin the day by cycling along quiet lanes beside the Dziwna Strait, heading towards Kamień Pomorski. This charming historic town features a picturesque old town square, a lively marina filled with yachts, and a magnificent cathedral renowned for its impressive pipe organ.
From Kamień Pomorski, it’s just a short ride on a wide, well-maintained cycle path that leads directly to the Baltic Sea. The route then follows the scenic coastline, winding through peaceful beech forests and passing some of the region’s most beautiful seaside resorts. Don’t miss the chance to stop at Dziwnówek, Łukęcin, and Pobierowo – all known for their pristine sandy beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
We spend the night in Trzęsacz, a coastal village famous for the dramatic cliffside ruins of a 15th-century church. Perched above the sea, this unique historic site offers a stunning backdrop to end the day’s ride on your cycling holiday along the Polish Baltic coast.
The renowned Velo Baltica cycling route continues along a series of scenic bike paths, passing through a string of charming seaside resorts on Poland’s Baltic coast. One of the most picturesque highlights is the wooden footbridge across the dunes in Dźwirzyno, offering stunning views of the sea and surrounding landscapes.
For those seeking a more relaxed pace, you have the option to shorten this stage by approximately 10 km by taking the local single-track railway from Trzęsacz. This allows more time to enjoy the beach, splash in the waves, or unwind at the popular aquapark in Pogorzelica.
The day’s ride concludes in Kołobrzeg, a vibrant port city rich in history and seaside charm. Highlights include the historic lighthouse, a well-preserved spa district, a gothic-style town hall, and a beautifully reconstructed old town. Stroll along the pier and promenade, or simply relax and take in the refreshing sea air.
This section of the cycling holiday offers a perfect mix of active travel, beachside leisure, and cultural exploration along one of Poland’s most scenic coastal cycle routes.
If you wish to complete this stage entirely by bike, you’ll enjoy a scenic ride along the Old Railway Trail, a peaceful route that follows the path of a former narrow-gauge railway through dense forests en route to Karlino. The well-surfaced trail and tranquil setting make the kilometres fly by.
Thanks to excellent rail connections in the region, there are also several flexible options for shortening the route. One popular alternative is to take the train from Kołobrzeg to Białogard, saving around 40 km of cycling. From there, you can continue by bike along the Baltic coast, covering a further 35 km to Mielno, a lively seaside resort, before taking another short train ride from Koszalin to Rąbino.
For those seeking the easiest version of the route, you can cycle just 18 km from Rąbino to Połczyn-Zdrój. This relaxed ride includes a stunning maple-lined avenue and a gentle path along a former railway embankment, ideal for a leisurely day in the saddle.
We stay overnight in Połczyn-Zdrój, a charming spa town often described as a “resort with a soul.” Here you’ll find a welcoming market square, beautifully preserved historic houses, a small castle, peaceful parks, and traditional sanatoriums – the perfect place to unwind after a day of cycling through northern Poland’s idyllic countryside.
The former railway route from Połczyn-Zdrój to Złocieniec offers one of the most scenic cycling experiences of the entire tour. Passing through the stunning landscapes of Pomeranian Switzerland, this section truly surpasses previous trails in natural beauty and charm.
Midway through the ride, take a refreshing break at Gęsia Łączka beach on the shores of Lake Siecino – the perfect spot for a picnic and a swim in crystal-clear waters.
From Złocieniec, the route continues towards Drawsko Pomorskie, with two equally rewarding options. Adventurous cyclists can choose the wild forest route, immersing themselves in nature, while those preferring a more cultural journey can follow a route through charming villages and scenic moraine hills above the expansive Lake Lubie. Along the way, a traditional inn by the fish ponds offers a chance to taste freshly caught trout, a delicious highlight of the day.
Your final night is spent in Drawsko Pomorskie, with two accommodation options to suit your preferences. Stay in a comfortable town hotel, or opt for the luxurious four-star Lubie Resort in Gudowo, where elegant apartments offer stunning lake views – a perfect end to your cycling holiday along Poland’s Baltic coast and inland lake district.
The “Velo Baltica” route follows a network of cycle paths linking several seaside resorts. One of its most scenic sections is the wooden footbridge crossing the dunes at Dźwirzyno. By taking the narrow-gauge railway at Trzęsacz, you can shorten this gentle stage by around 10 km, leaving more time to relax on the beach, enjoy the sea, or visit the aquapark in Pogorzelica. Kołobrzeg is a major port with a rich history, featuring a striking lighthouse, a spa district, a Gothic town hall, a carefully reconstructed old town, as well as a pier and promenade.
