What to expect before, during and after your Freewheel cycling holiday.
Before you set off on your adventure on two wheels you will receive a hotel list which states all the accommodation you will be staying at whilst you are on your trip. You will also be sent some joining instructions (these do change depending on which of our suppliers are taking care of you). You can also request the GPX trackers for your route if you wish to add them to a GPX App on your smartphone or a Garmin. Some of our suppliers also have Apps you can download all your documents on.
We aim to have all documents to you 4 weeks prior to your departure. Please note that there is no need for you to print all these items because you will receive a pack at your first hotel which will have all your documents in it, along with a detailed route map on paper if you choose not to follow the GPX. Also, during your arrival some of our suppliers will come and meet you and answer any questions you have if you need clarification on this please contact the Freewheel team prior to departure. If you have hired bikes from us, they will also be at your first hotel waiting for your arrival. You will also get a luggage tag in your packs to stick on your bags for your daily luggage transfers along with a local number who are there to support you if you have any troubles along the way. After your return we always welcome feedback as we want to improve our offering year on year. This questionnaire will be sent upon your return.
All of our trips include daily luggage transfers. All you need to do is bring your bags (maximum of 20kg) down to the reception on you way to breakfast and our team will pick them up for you and take them to your next hotel. If you choose to take 2 smaller bags the team will ask you to tie them together, so that they don’t get lost along the way. If on one for the days you don’t feel like cycling or the weather doesn’t look great, most of our suppliers will offer you a ride if there’s space in the transport.
All our hotels are carefully picked by our local suppliers and are ideally located. Indeed, they are close to bars and restaurants so that you’re able to go out for an evening walk or walk to your dinner reservation. We take into consideration hotels that have safe areas to store your bikes and can charge your E-Bikes overnight. We aim to send you a hotel list 4 weeks prior to travel. All our hotels are family friendly. Most rooms are doubles or singles. However, we can request twin rooms, but this is on a request basis and never guaranteed.
If you are Vegan or Vegetarian or if you have any other dietary requirements, please try and let us know at the time of booking. Most of our trips offer breakfast and our hotels have a good selection of food available for you to enjoy before you embark on your cycling trip for the day. Some of our trips offer half board which includes your breakfast and evening meal.
Whilst on holiday
Your bikes (if hired) will be awaiting your arrival at your first hotel, The hotel receptionist will have any information you need to know about them. You will also be given a contact number for our local travel partner in case of any emergencies or problems you have with your bicycles whilst you are on holiday with us. Our local travel partner will also be able to answer any questions you may have whilst you are on your trip. You will also be given an emergency kit to fix any little issues.
You are required to bring your own helmets on your holiday, certain suppliers will hire them for an additional cost but since Covid this isn’t the norm. If you need to hire a helmet please ask the sales team and we will tell you if this is possible with your local supplier.
