Itinerary
After making your own way to the birthplace of Mozart, welcome yourself in this cultural city by wandering round the backstreets and traditional squares; why not stop at one of the famous coffee shops for a taste of Austrian specialities? It would be impossible to not have an amazing cultural experience in this city.
This morning you will head along the Salzach river and the former Ischler railway on your way to Eugendorf. Go through lush meadows and for the journey you will have “Drachenwand” in your sights, which translates to “dragon’s wall”, once this is out of view you will arrive at the well-known lake resort characterised by a palace and abbey church.
On the third day find yourself on the cycle path on the banks of Lake Mondsee until you arrive to a world of green which is Lake Attersee. You’ll travel to the north side and then pass through the Aurach Valley to Lake Traunsee. Immerse yourself in scenery that has been used as movie backdrops numerous times in Gmunden, which is also known for pottery and “Ort palace”. You’ll settle down for the night in either Altmünster, Traunkirchen or Ebensee.
On this day you’ll head to the famous Bad Ischl, you’ll be lead there along a cycle path from Ebensee along the River Traun. Pass the health resort of Bad Goisern, until you get to Lake Hallstatt. The amazing scenery will impress you as you travel to the town branded “the loveliest lakeside town in the world”. Sleep in the heart of the village for the night.
Cycle along the river Traun stopping off in Bad Ischl. We highly recommend a visit to Café Zauner, where you can try the local “Süßigkeiten” or sweet treats, which were fit for Emporer Franz Josef and Sissi. Once your bellies are full of delicious cake, cycle on along Lake Wolfgang and enjoy the ambience around the hotel, the famous “weißen Rössl”.
Today is time for a well-earned rest / time to experience Austria’s most famous lake. You can take your pick of activity for the day, you can take a trip up to mount Schafberg on the cog railway, this can be organised locally and gives a beautiful view of the surrounding areas. You can also opt to take a boat ride across the lake or get into it yourself by taking a dip.
Head long a cycle like to St. Gilgen until you get to the strikingly blue lake Fuschlee. From here you will go through valleys, gorges and past more lakes. One of the gorges “Glasenbachklamm” is truly an amazing experience, even for non-nature lovers. Before getting to your destination of Salzburg why not taking a diversion to Schloss Hellbrunn.
