Itinerary

After making your own way to Bordeaux you should have some time to do a first loop of the vineyards of Pécharmant, depending on what time you arrive. This wine is characterised by its garnet colour and is great to try. You will also have time to visit Bergerac, a town with charming streets worth taking a walk on.

Today’s cycling is characterised by rivers! On leaving Bergerac in the morning, you’ll find yourself on paths through forests and meadows, as well as traditional Perigord villages with interesting histories to tell. You will eventually arrive on the “cingles”, the meanders of the Dordogne and the route becomes a little more challenging, made worth it of course with amazing views. You can even take the opportunity to get off the bike and swim at the confluence of the Vézère and Dordogne River in Limeuil, a truly beautiful village.

Today’s scenery will not be river-orientated, but rather mountain and valleys. After a short distance on bike, you will reach Eyzies-de-Tayac AKA the World Capital of Prehistory and where you can see thousands of years of world history in the caves. After a spot of history, cycle through refreshing valleys with untouched rivers populated by trout. Pay a visit to Commarque Castle, from the Middle Ages you can see typical buildings from this time. Your stop for the night is Sarlat, a charming medieval city.

Today will start and end in the same place and will entail an excursion. Cycle through refreshing valleys and rivers and stop by traditional and charming villages on route, perfect for a spot of lunch.

Today you will complete a loop of the Monfort Meander and the castle here, as well as the town of Domme. This town had a surrounding fort and sits at 300m over the river. After completing this loop, you will also have some time to wander around Sarlat, where there are an abundance of pleasant streets and squares to visit.

Enjoy a day full of castles! The day will start early so you have plenty of time for the journey ahead. Firstly, go past La Roque-Gageac, considered one of France’s most beautiful villages. After you have visited here there are a huge number of castles to visit in the valley: Beynac, Castelnau, Marqueyssac, Fayrac, and Milandes – take your pick! End the journey will a stop in the gorgeous hilltop town of Belvès

On your last day of cycling there is some interesting scenery to cover. You will pass by quaint villages, churches, and a covered market until you reach Beaumont du Périgord. As you continue you will pass by the gorgeous Couze Valley, which has mills and fresh water. Before returning to Bergerac enjoy catching a view of the Bannes Castle, which is perched on a hill and displays typical medieval architecture. When you arrive back to Bergerac, take some time to enjoy this wonderful city.
