Itinerary

After making your own way to Nuremberg, enjoy some time in this Bavarian town full of history, which home to cobbled, historical streets, an impressive castle, multiple churches, and museums.

From Nuremberg you will take the Regnitz cycle path, which actually begins here. Your direction will be north which takes you on a route filled with green meadows and leafy forests. Through the Regnitz valley you will eventually get to the city of Erlangen, famous for its university and industry, this will be home for the night.

Today’s route has the Steigerwald nature park on the left and Franconian Swizerland on the right, whilst peddling downstream through the Regnitz valley with its amazing views and weirs. You will cross the Main-Danube Canal twice at the Strullendorf lock and Hirschaid hydroelectric power station. Your stop for the night is Bamberg, famous for its breweries and beer gardens, and traditional architecture.

The first few kilometres will be on the cycle path which you are by now well-acquainted with. Today you can also opt to shorten the journey by taking the train to Hirschaid for an additional cost, from here you will follow the small Aisch River to your destination of Neustadt. One of the notable sites here is the billy goat who comes out every hour on the town hall clock, sitting in a gorgeous square.

One of your stops for today will be in Bad Windsheim where you can visit the Franconian open-air museum. Here you will also find multiple historical buildings that have been restored, as well as multiple beer gardens that invite you in to try some locally brewed beer. Once you arrive to Rothenburg we recommend trying a sweet Rothenburg snowball!

On this day you will leave the Taubertal valley and join the Burgenstraße cycle path. Take a break in Colmberg where you can see the impressive Zollernburg castle watching over the town. Now you will start to follow the Franconian Rezat to Ansbach, an impressive margrave town. You will keep on the Burgenstraße cycle path until you get to your home for the night of Wolframs-Eschenbach with many exciting things to see, such as the castle.

Time for another day on the Burgenstraße cycle path, which will take you past the moated castle in Lichtenau, Roth, and the Ratibor castle. Now you will head on the Main-Danube Canal until you get back to Nuremburg. Enjoy a last afternoon in this incredible imperial city.

Your tour will end here unless you opt to add more days, which we would be happy to accommodate.
