Sardinia Classic

Sardinia encompasses a range of diverse faces, from the stereotyped yachting elite of the fabled Costa Smeralda to the simple shepherd’s society of the mountainous interior. Neither image of course represents more than a tiny fraction of the true picture. There are glorious beaches and rocky groves on every coast, and also dramatic cliffs and numerous lagoons which accounts for a rich diversity of wildlife, as do the forested mountains and the wild macchia that carpets the interior.

Itinerary

Make your way to Arbus, We can arrange a private transfer for a supplement.

Discovery day. In Arbus, visit the knife’s museum, holder of the world’s heaviest knife. Then bike through the natural beauty spots of the Costa Verde, some of the most savage scenery on the island, to the Piscinas beach with its sands dunes over 50 m high – some of the highest in Europe. Ride: approx. 49km

This leg takes you back into the ancient mining past of Sardinia, as you pass the fascinating abandoned mines of Buggerru and Planusartu. After the golden beach of Portixeddu and looming mass of Pan di Zucchero cliff, admire the old ore washery at Nebida: nestling in the varied colours of the Mediterranean bush, it looks out over the sea at the end of a long descente down 540 steps

After an exciting descent to Fontanamare, you reach Portoscuso, and cross over to the island of Carloforte, where locals still fish the Red Tuna fish. From Carloforte, continue to the island of Sant’Antioco and end your day in Calasetta.

Discovery day. Enjoy the swimming pool of the hotel or get on your bike again for a loop of Sant’Antioco. Alternatively cycle back to Carloforte and stroll along its narrow streets or explore the island to Capo Sandalo.

Pedal through the meadows, green in springtime and golden yellow in Autumn, of the Isle of Sant’Antioco. At Tratalias, visit the Pisan sanctuary, one of the most important monuments of the Sardinian Romanesque period. Riding along quiet country lanes, savour the peace of the rolling plains of Sulcis.

Final catwalk of your bike tour is the beautiful Costa del Sud with its gleaming white beaches, unspoilt natural landscape and imposing cliffs: Cape Malfatano with its 16th Century tower and Cape Spartivento. Before Pula, relax on the charming Caribbean look beach of Chia.

Visit the ancient Phoenician and then Roman settlement of Nora. After some shopping in Pula, celeBrače the end of your tour sipping a glass of mirto, the local spirit, in the piazzetta.

Depart after breakfast.
