Itinerary
Meet your tour guide in the late afternoon and begin your introduction to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, renowned for its charming and picturesque old town. As part of your stay—perfectly suited to those enjoying cycling holidays through the region—you’ll visit the historic Hôtel Dieu, the former hospital for the poor and one of Beaune’s most iconic landmarks.
You cycle via Chagny to castle Rully, a medieval fortress in midst of vineyards. Join the Voie Verte, an old railway track converted into a cycle path and cycle to Buxy. The picturesque little town surrounded by vineyards lives from winegrowing. One overnight in Buxy/ Saint Boil or the surrounding area.
The Voie Verte offers relaxed cycling pleasure with only a few gentle inclines. In Cormatin, you will find the largest castle in Burgundy, and in Cluny, the impressive monastery complex, whose church was once the largest Christian church in the world. The destination is Mâcon, a charming town on the Saône with a southern flair – ideal for an enjoyable end to the day. Overnight stay in Mâcon.
The route takes you leisurely along the “Voie Bleue” along the Saône through the lovely countryside of Burgundy. In Tournus, it is worth visiting the Romanesque Abbey of Saint-Philibert before continuing through vineyards and small villages. The destination is Chalon-sur-Saône, a lively town with historical flair, a pretty old town, and inviting riverside promenades – perfect for a relaxing end to the stage. Overnight stay in Chalon-sur-Saône.
Today you cycle through the vast river landscape to Verdun-sur-le-Doubs, a charming village at the confluence of the Doubs and Saône rivers. Passing through small villages and green riverbank landscapes, you reach Seurre, where you can take a break and enjoy some regional cuisine. You will reach Saint-Jean-de-Losne/surrounding area, France’s largest inland port for recreational boating. Enjoy the maritime flair, the cozy cafés by the water, and the view of the numerous boats. Overnight stay in Saint-Jean-de-Losne.
The route runs quietly and close to nature along the Canal de Bourgogne – ideal for enjoying and unwinding. You cycle through small villages, past locks and houseboats, always accompanied by the canal’s watercourse. The route is almost entirely flat and has little traffic – perfect for relaxing hours in the saddle. The destination is Dijon, the historic capital of Burgundy. Look forward to a lively old town, the famous Owl Trail, and culinary delights in one of the most beautiful cities in France. One night in Dijon.
This route is one of the most beautiful wine routes in France. You will cycle through the famous vineyards of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, passing vineyards, castles, and charming wine-growing villages such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Savigny-lès-Beaune.
