Provence Lavender
Provence, a dream French region for its wonderful landscapes and hilltop villages. This tour takes you through this unique scenery at a very special time when the lavender is at full bloom. The scent and the gorgeous blend of colours makes this area even more special. Aside from the lavender enjoy the gorgeous blossom and beautiful architecture of scattered villages and sights. If you’re a lover of France and its culture you will love this tour, if you are not, you will be after this tour!
Itinerary
After making your own way to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, get to know this quaint small town on an island in Sorgue. Here you will find antique shops and old water wheels.
Time to get on the peddles and start your cycling! You will head through agricultural land through Carpentras and Comtat Venaisssin. Pass by the heights of Denteeles des Montmirail which offers an impressive landscape, after this head to the old roman town of Vaison-la-Romaine which is impressively constructed on hills.
Start off the day by having a transfer to Vaison la Romaine and then get back on your bike. Head by the quanint stone village of Brantes and Montbrun-les-Bains to the plateau of d’Albion. See more lavender fields before reaching the town of Sault, where you will stop overnight.
Today you will take a route through the beautiful villages of Mollans and Montrun-les-Bains, back to the Plateau d’Albion and through wonderful purple lavender fields before you go back to your starting point of Sault. Here you can have a view from above of the lavender fields from Mont Ventoux.
Before leaving Sault, we recommend visiting the market in the morning. After this, cycle through the picturesque villages and the gorgeous natural park in Luberon. Pass through Apt, an area known for its candied fruits. You can either stay overnight in Apt or a nearby village.
Today’s route through the Luberon will be slightly more difficult as you pass through the towns of Bonnieux, Boux and Saignon until returning to Apt, this is due to rolling hills. The views and spectacular hilltop towns do make this worth it. Should you fancy a more relaxed day of cycling, you can opt to go to Gargas instead, here you can find an ochre quarry which is the last working one in France.
On your last day of cycling go through the charming village of Roussillon, once the centre of the ochre pit. Afterwards go through the charming town of Gordes and onto the spring of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and have your final overnight stay in L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
Enjoy a last breakfast and then your tour will come to an end.
