Itinerary
Your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen starts on the Danish island of Funen! After check-in, explore Denmark’s third-largest city on foot or by bike – your rental bikes are already at your hotel. Get to know the cobbled streets lined with small, colourful houses. The H.C. Andersen Hus is dedicated to the world-famous writer Hans Christian Andersen, a true native. It takes visitors interactively into his fairytale world.
The first stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen takes you south of Funen. Funen is often referred to as the Garden of Denmark. No wonder, as blooming gardens, tranquil forests, extensive parks and fairytale castles characterise the island. Speaking of castles, it’s worth taking a longer break at Egeskov Castle, one of Europe’s most beautiful moated castles. At today’s destination, Svendborg, visit the old town with its countless half-timbered houses. The oldest of these is Anne Hvides Gård, dating back to the 16th century.
After breakfast, you cycle along the Svendborgsundbroen to the island of Tåsinge. Not far from the sailing town of Troense, you will reach Valdemars Slot. It is located at the seashore and was built in the 17th century. Continue via Siødæmningen, the small island of Siø and Langelandsbroen to the island of Langeland. The ferry takes you to Tårs on the island of Lolland. You will spend the night in Nakskov, the largest town on the island. Visit the Sugar Museum, providing an insight into the history of sugar production, which is of significant economic importance to this day.
Today, we are heading into the heart of Lolland. You follow mostly flat bike paths, getting to know the island’s beautiful nature. First, you cycle to Kragenæs in the north. Enjoy the sea view, then get on your bike and head towards the nearby Dodecanese. This modern work of art is shaped like a stone circle. Continue to the harbour town of Bandholm. Visit the Knuthenborg Safari Park, the largest in Northern Europe. A little further south, you will arrive in the cosy town of Maribo. You spend the night in Bandholm or Maribo.
Today’s stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen is also pleasantly flat. Take a second look at the sea in Bandholm and stroll through the cosy streets of Maribo, then make your way to Falster. Via Guldborgsund, you reach the island of Falster with the harbour town of Nykøbing. Half-timbered houses, the monastery church and its water tower define the outline of the town. A few kilometres further, you will encounter one of Denmark’s most beautiful beaches in Marielyst. You will spend the night in Nykøbing Falster or Marielyst.
After breakfast, another pleasantly flat stage awaits. The path takes you along the coast to the east of Falster. Enjoy the view of the Baltic Sea and take a dip or two into its waters. A recommendation here is the beach at Hesnæs. The small fishing village is characterised by its houses, whose walls are wrapped in straw. In Stubbekøbing, a few kilometres away, you can take a ferry to the island of Bogø and cycle on to the island of Møn. Stege takes you to the island capital, Møn.
The island of Møn is a popular holiday destination and rightly so. Møn features a variety of different landscapes in a small, concentrated area. Flat meadows and rocky, wooded hills characterise its island’s landscape. Møns Klint, the highest cliff in Denmark, is a standout. Through the beech forest Klinteskoven, you will reach the up to 128-metre-high chalk cliffs – a unique natural spectacle. Steps take you down to its pebble beach, ideal for a long walk, before you cycle back to Stege.
Today’s stage of your bike tour from Odense to Copenhagen takes you from the island of Møn to Zealand. You cycle via the Dronning Alexandrines Bro to the largest island in the Baltic Sea. You follow the winding, hilly bike path via Præstø to Faxe Ladeplads. The sandy beach here is perfect for a swim or a break in the sun. Continue to Rødvig. From its harbour you can see the Stevns Klint cliff nearby which you will visit tomorrow.
Today’s journey takes you to the dramatic cliffs of Stevns Klint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its striking coastal landscapes. Just a few kilometres away lies Højerup, where a 13th-century church dramatically perches on the cliff edge after centuries of coastal erosion—a must-see and a favourite spot for photos.
As you continue along Køge Bay, you’ll be treated to countless panoramic sea views. Approaching Copenhagen, you’ll find an excellent network of dedicated cycle paths, making it easy to explore the city on two wheels. Discover iconic landmarks such as the colourful harbourfront of Nyhavn, the royal residence at Amalienborg Palace, and the historic Rundetårn (Round Tower).
If you prefer a more relaxed option, you can shorten the route by taking the train from Køge to Copenhagen (ticket not included).
