Follow the gentle course of the Moselle River as your cycling holiday begins, soaking up the French charm and outstanding cuisine of the fascinating border region where France, Luxembourg and Germany meet. This unforgettable bike tour takes you through one of Germany’s most celebrated wine-growing regions, with scenic riverside cycling routes, rolling vineyards and picturesque towns at every turn.
Along the way, discover the historic treasures of Trier, Germany’s oldest city, where highlights include the famous Imperial Baths and the impressive Porta Nigra, a remarkable Roman monument. Your cycling holiday continues through some of the Moselle Valley’s most beautiful towns and villages, including Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach, Cochem, Neumagen-Dhron — Germany’s oldest wine village — and Enkirch, renowned for its charming half-timbered architecture.
Enjoy leisurely bike rides along romantic river paths, visit the fairytale-like Eltz Castle, and take in the stunning scenery that makes the Moselle one of Europe’s most popular cycling holiday destinations. Your journey concludes in Koblenz, where you can admire the spectacular Deutsches Eck, the famous meeting point of the Moselle and Rhine rivers.

Itinerary
Independent arrival in the capital of Lorraine, situated in north-eastern France. An almost endless variety of attractions and landmarks are waiting to be discovered.
Your first stage takes you through Thionville, situated in the tri-border area of Germany, France and Luxembourg. Near Perl, you will pass through Schengen, the small village made famous by the Schengen Agreement. Once in Perl, you will also have the opportunity to visit the Roman villa.
From Perl, the River Moselle forms the natural border between Germany and Luxembourg. Vineyards stretch along both banks of the river, accompanying you for much of the journey towards Koblenz and providing magnificent panoramic views.
You will reach today’s destination via Konz, where the River Saar joins the Moselle. Trier, Germany’s oldest city, offers the chance to discover over 2,000 years of fascinating history.
Before continuing along the Moselle, it is well worth setting aside time to visit the famous amphitheatre and the Porta Nigra. Along the route, an informative trail provides insight into the region’s native grape varieties. Near Piesport, you will pass through Neumagen-Dhron, recognised as Germany’s oldest wine village.
Why not round off this wonderful day of cycling with a glass of local wine in Piesport?
Before long, you will arrive in Bernkastel-Kues, where charming narrow lanes and colourful half-timbered houses create a memorable atmosphere. Be sure to sample the famous “Bernkasteler Doctor”, one of the region’s renowned local wines.
Continuing on your journey, you will pass through the wine-growing area known as “Kröver Nacktarsch”. An optional boat trip along the river offers splendid views of the surrounding vineyards (not included).
Your destination for today is Traben-Trarbach, a town celebrated for its impressive collection of Art Nouveau and Belle Époque architecture.
Today, your route is once again accompanied by the vineyards lining the Moselle Valley. Enkirch, with its delightful half-timbered houses, is a perfect spot to stop and relax for a while. Continuing along the river, you will pass the renowned wine-producing area known as the “Zeller Schwarze Katz”.
Travelling through Beilstein, often called the “Rothenburg of the Moselle”, you will soon reach Cochem. The town’s attractive historic centre and its impressive 11th-century castle are among the many highlights well worth exploring, so allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the visit.
After a short ride, it is well worth taking a detour to the medieval Eltz Castle, regarded as one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-preserved castles. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside, it offers spectacular views and a truly memorable setting.
Returning to the Moselle cycle path, you will pass through a number of charming wine villages before reaching your final destination, Koblenz. The town centre lies at the meeting point of the Moselle and Rhine rivers and is an excellent place for a leisurely stroll.
