Itinerary

Participants depart from Kraków at 3:00 PM. From there, we travel together by bus to a hotel in Oświęcim.

Oświęcim – internationally known by its German name, Auschwitz – is deeply connected with the tragic history of the Second World War due to the presence of the concentration camps.

Oświęcim is a historic town with an 800-year-old history. It features a market square, green boulevards, and a cycling route that runs alongside the Soła River.

Bright orange signposts mark the start of an unforgettable cycling route just after crossing the bridge over the Vistula River. The first section is smooth and fast, following the elevated flood embankments for an efficient and enjoyable ride.

Upon reaching the village of Przewóz, we cross to the right bank of the Vistula via a charming small river ferry. From there, the path winds through a patchwork of orchards and gardens, offering a more intimate and tranquil cycling experience along narrow, meandering trails.

This stage of the journey concludes at the historic Benedictine Monastery in Tyniec, perched dramatically atop limestone cliffs – a true highlight of the route. We’ll then relax at a nearby hotel, conveniently located next to an artificial canoeing course, providing the perfect place to unwind after the day’s ride.

We enter the city of Kraków in a manner truly fit for royalty. Our first stop is the hilltop monastery in Bielany, followed by a stunning riverside view of the iconic towers of Wawel Castle – the historic seat of Polish kings.

For those who prefer a quieter experience, it’s entirely possible to stay on the banks of the Vistula River, as a dedicated cycle path runs through the entire urban area. However, the vibrant heart of Kraków awaits. You’re welcome to explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town and the atmospheric former Jewish district of Kazimierz.

For more ambitious cyclists, a ride up to the Kościuszko or Piłsudski Mounds – monumental tributes to Polish national heroes – rewards you with sweeping panoramic views over Kraków and the surrounding countryside.

The journey continues past the historic town of Niepołomice. In the peaceful surroundings of the Renaissance Niepołomice Castle and the ancient Niepołomicki Forest – once royal hunting grounds – you’ll cycle through a landscape steeped in history and nature.

Accommodation is arranged in the unique and atmospheric Saint Norbert’s Hotel, a converted monastery in Hebdów. Alternatively, a comfortable three-star hotel is available in Niepołomice.

This stage of the journey is exceptionally scenic, with almost the entire route taking place on newly laid asphalt paths that run along the tops of flood embankments. The smooth, flat ride along the right bank of the Vistula offers uninterrupted views of the gently rolling hills across the river – a charming patchwork of narrow fields and traditional baulks.

As we approach the village of Morsko, the Vistula forms a series of picturesque meanders, adding to the natural beauty of the route. At the mouth of the Dunajec River, the path turns south, guiding us into a more tranquil, rural landscape.

Tonight’s accommodation is arranged in a cosy, family-run hotel in the peaceful village of Zabawa, near Tarnów – the perfect place to relax and recharge after a full day of cycling through the Polish countryside.

The highlight of this stage is the enchanting village of Zalipie, known throughout Poland for its unique tradition of floral folk art. Despite its remote location, Zalipie attracts visitors with its hand-painted cottages, barns, and outbuildings – all adorned in vibrant, whimsical flower motifs that bring the village to life.

From there, the journey continues via the ferry crossing at Nowy Korczyn, followed by peaceful avenues lined with majestic willow trees. This picturesque route leads to the charming spa town of Solec-Zdrój, a popular wellness destination known for its mineral-rich waters and relaxing atmosphere.

For those looking to extend their ride, there are excellent opportunities to explore further. The recently completed section of the Velo Dunajec cycle path stretches to Tarnów, a mid-sized city with a beautifully preserved Old Town and rich historical heritage. Alternatively, the scenic Vistula River route continues northward to the town of Szczucin.

We continue along the embankments, riding through a vast network of fish ponds that create a peaceful, reflective landscape. The route leads us toward the Gothic town of Wiślica, where it feels as if time has stood still since the Middle Ages. Its historic charm and architectural heritage can be felt as you approach by bike, offering a unique sense of stepping back in time.

Passing through a series of quaint, flower-adorned villages, we make our way to Busko-Zdrój, a well-known spa resort in southern Poland. Here, a grand 19th-century pump room, designed by renowned Italian architect Antonio Corazzi Marconi, stands at the heart of a spacious spa park. The combination of history, architecture, and natural beauty makes Busko-Zdrój a perfect place to relax and unwind after a rewarding day of cycling.

Today’s stage takes us deep into the heart of the Ponidzie region – one of Poland’s most tranquil and undiscovered cycling areas.

Our first stop is the Skorocice Nature Reserve, home to a remarkable canyon carved over centuries by a stream cutting through soft gypsum (plaster) rock. This hidden geological gem offers a striking natural contrast to the rolling fields and meadows surrounding it.

From there, we cycle to Chroberz, where a stately palace nestled in a landscaped park awaits, alongside a beautifully maintained riverside beach on the Nida River – perfect for a relaxing break.

Our final destination today is the Krzyżanowice Nature Reserve, a hill draped in rare steppe vegetation. From its summit, you’ll be treated to another breathtaking panorama over the Ponidzie landscape.

The return to Busko-Zdrój takes us along the edge of the hills, where newly established vineyards line the route – a sign of the region’s emerging wine culture and a scenic end to this diverse and rewarding day of cycling.

On the final morning, we offer comfortable bus transport back to Kraków, including secure bike transport, with arrival expected around noon.
