Itinerary

Welcome to Malmö – Sweden’s vibrant third-largest city. Discover the charming Old Town with its picturesque half-timbered houses, impressive equestrian statue, and the historic Malmöhus Castle. Once a medieval fortress, Malmöhus now serves as the city museum, surrounded by tranquil parkland that’s perfect for a stroll.

Begin your Kattegat adventure on a gentle, almost completely flat cycling route with breathtaking views of the sea. The trail follows dedicated cycle paths and quiet country roads, offering a safe and relaxing ride. It’s pure cycling pleasure along Sweden’s stunning west coast!

Your journey begins with a scenic ride along Helsingborg’s seafront promenade before reaching the magnificent Sofiero Palace and Gardens. This lush green oasis, crowned Europe’s Most Beautiful Park in 2010, is a must-see highlight. Continuing along the coastline, you’ll pass charming fishing villages and picturesque marinas before arriving in Höganäs, home of the world-famous salt-glazed Höganäs ceramics – perfect for browsing and buying unique pieces.

The route then takes you across the beautiful Kulla Peninsula, where rolling vineyards and inviting farm shops line the way. Your day concludes in Ängelholm, a delightful town where you’ll enjoy an overnight stay.

From Ängelholm, the route follows the coast towards Vejbystrand, taking you through open meadows and a series of charming seaside communities. At Magnarps Port, you can pause at a hidden gem – a delightful fish restaurant offering breathtaking views of the sea.

Leaving the shoreline, the trail cuts across the peninsula to reach the vibrant summer resort of Båstad. From here, your journey continues along one of Sweden’s longest sandy beaches, passing the popular coastal resorts of Skummeslövsstrand and Mellbystrand. Along the way, you’ll cycle through the scenic Tönnersa and Gullbranna nature reserves before arriving in the lively city of Halmstad.

Today, you’ll discover one of Sweden’s most iconic destinations – Tylösand Beach, renowned as the country’s most famous sandy shoreline. Not only is the beach itself a highlight, but the stylish Tylösand Hotel is also well worth a visit.

From here, the route continues north along the coast, where the landscape opens up to sweeping sea views, fertile farmland, and fascinating nature reserves. You’ll pass through Ugglarp, a charming coastal village celebrated for its vegetable gardens and inviting seaside atmosphere. The journey then takes you across the scenic Grimsholmen nature reserve before reaching Falkenberg, one of Halland’s oldest medieval towns and a cultural gem on Sweden’s west coast.

Along this stretch of the route, you can look forward to picturesque fishing villages and meeting talented local artists and artisans. In Träslövsläge, treat yourself to freshly cooked lobster and wander through the charming old quarter with its traditional houses. As you continue towards Varberg, the town’s impressive castle rises dramatically above the coastline, offering a striking welcome.

North of Varberg, the landscape begins to change – long sandy beaches give way to a rugged rocky coastline, and the first small islands appear on the horizon. Cycling past open fields and horse farms, the route leads you to Kungsbacka, a charming small town with an impressive historic centre and a welcoming atmosphere.

Have you missed the sea? Fortunately, today it’s back at your side. The route takes you past Vallda and Särö – once the summer playground of Sweden’s royal family and Gothenburg’s high society. From here, you’ll join an old railway line, now transformed into a scenic coastal cycle path.

Cliffs, lush forests, sheltered bays, and bustling marinas accompany you on the final stretch towards Gothenburg. Following the harbour, you’ll arrive in Sweden’s vibrant second-largest city, where you can enjoy your last overnight stay and celebrate the end of your cycling adventure.
