Itinerary
After making your own way to Bordeaux enjoy some time in the wine capital.
Now it’s time to say goodbye to your stay for the first night and head for the banks of the Garonne River. You will be following the Roger Lapébie cycle path, named after the famous 1937 Tour de France champion. This path takes you to Créon, which is home to an old station reminding you of the importance of trains back in the day. The rest of the journey will be amongst amazing scenery with forests and vineyards, where you can stop at Sauve-Majeure Abbey with its Romanesque sculptures and architecture.
It’s time to say goodbye to Sauveterre de Guyenna heading south via the Garonne Canal and entering the region of Entre-deux—Mers, where the road becomes hillier. This tougher terrain is worth it with the amazing views that accompany it. First notable stop of the day is the medieval village La Réole, where you can wander the narrow streets and climb the Benedictine Abbey to appreciate the view of the Garonne Valley. Next the route will lead to your destination of Mas d’Agenais, which you will get to via dikes and locks. Enjoy the collegiate church here.
Today will be another day of cycling on the Canal des 2 Mers, with your first stop being Damazan. Here you can see beautiful colourful buildings and a central square, which are typical of the 13th century Bastides. Carrying on through luscious green scenery you will reach your lunch spot of Buzet-sur-Baïse, before getting back on the bike path. Your home for the night is Agen, you will enter here via the beautiful Pont-canal de la Garonne, which is 600m and one of the largest in France. This city is the capital of prunes and is home to many beautiful sights and a rich heritage.
Say goodbye to Agen southwards on a greenway that goes along the Garonne Canal, until you get to your first stop of Valence d’Agen with its preserved monuments and port. Continuing on the canal you will be in a region of lock keepers until you get to your destination of Moissac. This sits on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle and has incredible monuments.
Start off by crossing the Cacor canal bridge over the Tarn and then enjoy a peaceful cycle on the Canal des 2 Mers up to the “Pink City”. Take a first stop in Castelsarrasin where you can visit the marina and multiple heritage riches. Once you reach the vineyards of Frontonnais, why not have a taste of the local wine the Négrette! As you continue through the countryside, be enchanted by the view of Toulouse from afair. You will enter the city via the Canal du Midi which takes you right into the city’s centre near the Place du Capitole.
Enjoy a day of exploring the colourful city of Toulouse
