Itinerary

Walk through the historic centre of Antequera with its 30 steeples.

The day begins with a welcome briefing and bike fitting in the morning. Afterwards, set off on your cycling adventure along a former railway line, winding through beautiful countryside towards Lucena.

You’ll be riding through one of the world’s leading olive oil-producing regions, where the renowned local oil is produced in traditional mills.

Continue along the former railway route, cycling through an endless landscape of olive groves and enjoying sweeping views across the surrounding hills. Agriculture remains at the heart of everyday life here, with local communities deeply connected to their traditions and rural heritage.

This strong sense of history and tradition can be seen throughout the charming towns of Cabra, Zuheros and Doña Mencía, each offering its own distinctive character and glimpse into authentic Andalusian life.

The foothills of the Sierra Morena provide a dramatic backdrop to Córdoba, the former European Capital of Culture. Surrounded by fragrant pine forests and a wonderfully peaceful sense of seclusion, this enchanting landscape offers a memorable setting for the ride.

The route follows quiet, largely traffic-free roads through gently undulating countryside towards Córdoba. Along the way, you’ll occasionally pass traditional estates dedicated to breeding fighting bulls, an important part of Andalusia’s heritage and a source of considerable local pride.

Once in Córdoba, take time to discover the remarkable reminders of its multicultural past. The city’s magnificent Great Mosque stands as a testament to the skill of Moorish architects and is one of the most impressive examples of Moorish architecture in Europe.

Leaving Córdoba, you’ll follow an ancient Roman route through the broad and fertile Guadalquivir Valley. The journey continues towards Écija, a town renowned for its long-standing tradition of horse breeding.

Further on, you’ll reach Palma del Río, once home to an influential Franciscan monastery. From here, Franciscan monks set out on journeys to the Americas, where they travelled as missionaries to spread their faith.

The Guadalquivir River remains your companion as you continue today’s ride through the Campiña of Seville, a gently undulating region of fertile farmland stretching across the countryside to the west.

Your route takes you to Carmona, a beautifully preserved historic town that seems almost untouched by the passage of time. Its characterful streets are lined with Baroque palaces, churches and monasteries, while the town is enclosed by remarkably well-preserved Moorish walls, offering a fascinating glimpse into its rich past.

Today’s ride takes you across the gently undulating Alcores plateau and into one of Andalusia’s most fertile agricultural regions. For centuries, Alcalá de Guadaíra provided Seville with both bread and water and is also regarded as one of the birthplaces of flamenco.

Along the way, you’ll pass former haciendas belonging to the old Kingdom of Seville. Many remain impressive working estates today, retaining much of the scale and character they had in centuries past.

The route finishes in Seville, a city steeped in opera and legend. Three famous operatic figures are closely associated with the city: Don Juan, the legendary seducer; the quick-witted barber Figaro; and Carmen, the captivating femme fatale whose story ends tragically between the tobacco factories and the bullring.

Seville also combines its historic charm with a more modern side. Two major international exhibitions brought striking contemporary architecture and expansive green parks to the city, adding a distinctly modern dimension to its character.
