Venice Lands
Classic tours between the Alps and the Adriatic, centred on the jewel of Venice
- Wonderful varied landscapes and historic cities
- Flat cycling terrain using cycle tracks and minor roads
- Cycle round the Venice Lagoon using three ferries – great fun!
- Explore wonderful sights and architecture in Vicenza and Padua
- Extend your stay in Venice
The longer version of this tour is a complete circuit taking in Venice and the historic towns and cities of the Veneto region. The almost totally flat cycling route takes you along two islands in the Venice Lagoon – Lido and Pellestrina – on the way to charming Chioggia, affectionately known as ‘Little Venice’ with its more modest waterways. Trains with bike transport connect the main cities on the tour so if you need a day of rest let the train take the strain!
The towns and cities en route will certainly impress and have your camera clicking: Venice itself needs little introduction; Vicenza and Padua offer magnificent historic sights – the Teatro Olimpico and St. Anthony’s Basilica to name but two; Bassano del Grappa with its lovely wooden bridge and famous grappa association makes a pleasant overnight stay.
If you prefer a shorter duration, try our 3 night itinerary which includes the fascinating route through Venice and across the Lagoon and then takes in historic Padua before returning to Mestre. You could always add extra nights to either holiday if you would like to devote more time to Venice and her many charms.
Terrain
Almost totally flat apart from a 1km hill in Asolo (7 night tour only). Minor roads or paved cycle tracks.
Climate
Spring and Autumn offer pleasant cycling conditions. Temperatures in high summer can reach 30°C (85°F)
