Overview

A fascinating ride between two of Europe’s great cities

    • Two wonderful, cultural capitals
    • Historic small towns of south Bohemia and Moravia, including two designated by Unesco
    • Beautiful countryside with forests and lakes along the old ‘Iron Curtain’
    • 3 star hotels - Self-guided or guided group tour options
    • Extend your stay in Prague or Vienna

Prague and Vienna are central Europe’s foremost exponents of style and elegance, and this rewarding tour allows you to link them and see some fine countryside and wonderful old towns, preserved with great care. The Czech-Austrian border area of south Bohemia and Moravia is a land of rolling countryside, beautiful small lakes and pristine forest. Castles abound as testament to former struggles amongst nobles and royal families. In more recent times this was ‘frontline’ territory, and some areas were forbidden even to native Czechs before the Iron Curtain was swept aside in 1989. The forested border area is known as ‘Czech Canada’ – an indication of its scenic grandeur.

A transfer takes you out of Prague south to Cesky Krumlov, avoiding busy roads. You will have plenty of time to explore Cesky Krumlov, the best preserved medieval town in Europe, deservedly entered on Unesco’s Heritage List. The lake area of Trebon follows and then the wooded border area before the renaissance town of Telc, which also features on Unesco’s list.

Continue through the wine-growing area of south Moravia to the cultural towns of Znojmo with its warren of small streets and impressive castle, and Mikulov with its delightful Renaissance and Baroque houses. Crossing into Austria you have a short journey to either Poysdorf or Mistelbach where the tour minibus driver can pick you up and take you to Vienna, again avoiding busier roads.

You can enjoy this itinerary as part of a group on certain dates. A tour guide will cycle with you and help you get the most from this rewarding route. Please see Prices and Departure Dates for further details.
